Primary and Backup Fiber Switching
Primary Fiber is the normal connection path for the ST fiber connection, but if Primary path fails we will fail over to the Secondary path with no interruption in Dante audio and only a brief re-lock on the SDI re-clockers.
Control data is sent down both Primary and Secondary paths, as well as all CWDM optical signals. Switching occurs only after LOS (loss of optical signal) and the Dante Brooklyn changes its source of audio signal. You can also change paths manually in the web page controls. Once a signal transfer occurs, we stay with the latest path until it fails or a manual switch back to Primary from web page control. The SDI and Ethernet LAN 3 also switch with this change. The Optical Relay has a single pole-double throw function, and optical transition time is 8ms, but will always cause a SDI relock and glitch, audio switch is silent because of Dante design. We do not attempt to switch fibers if a good fiber is not analyzed as a qualified stable signal path option.
